Breaking the shackles of the 9 to 5 job middle class mentality I started my firm immediately after clearing my CA.
I am CA. Deepinder Kaur, proprietor of D Kaur and Associates and this is my story.I still remember August 8, 2014 I cleared my CA exam and there was an overflow of emotions and wishes from my friends, relatives, neighbours, my parents’ colleagues etc. etc. Everyone was congratulating me and at the same time guiding me and my parents about the various companies that hire CAs, the salary packages offered and all the reasons why not to even think of starting anything of my own and how difficult it is for women entrepreneurs.
I wanted to fly, be free, but our society always finds a way to pull you down, but this time I had had enough of people letting me know what I should do. It was time for me to take control of my life and decide for myself.
This was the time I decided that I wanted to do something of my own. It was an uphill drive for me from thereon. Being the first in my family to start my own business there were many hurdles in my way from convincing my parents and making them believe in my dream. In addition to keeping myself updated with the changes in taxation and softwares, I started reading books on startups and entrepreneurship. With a limited budget to start, I allocated my funds to each domain including purchasing of equipment, rent and developed my own marketing strategies. Starting from a small locality now D Kaur and Associates has its office in one of the prime locations of Chandigarh with clients from all across India. In addition, we have been managing accounts for international firms across Australia and Canada.
Today we are a team of more than 10 professionals working with more than 1,000 clients in the financial hemisphere. Having completed 7 years, I believe we are still growing. Many more goals to achieve, many more feats to conquer. With this I wish the best to all the women out there, and wish to convey to them that ‘We Can Have It All’. Just believe in yourself, envision and let not anything stop you.
